2022.01.20 10:37 thyfellow Should I pursue CAD training independently?
I’ve been working full time for a year and a half, and haven’t been given any CAD assignments. It’s come up a few times, where a project manager will mention that there’s something that needs some work done in CAD, and asks me how I am with AutoCAD or Civil 3D. I answer honestly, that I’m a bit rusty because I haven’t done anything with it since college. I don’t want them to think I’ll have it done perfectly in a few hours when really it will probably take me all day. But I always express that I would like to work at it. The PM always says “oh ok, I’ll just give it to John Doe then, he’s good at CAD.”
I’ve been thinking I need to address this, to have a better answer when the question “how are you at CAD” comes up and actually be able to follow through on that answer so I’m no longer missing this important skill in the eyes of the PMs. I’m a quick learner, and not a complete novice, so I was thinking it may be enough to do some work on online modules, like on the Autodesk website, in my free time, and eventually get a certificate when I have more experience so I can prove my competence to PMs and hopefully get more work.
Is this a good idea? Are there any other online training options you have used or would recommend?

2022.01.20 10:37 little__pet Routines on nest mini quit working
Honestly have no idea what happened as this just started last night. My night bedtime routine decided last night it felt like it didn’t want to go through the actions. Okay, fine. I initiated my good morning routine and it did the same thing. Did a factory reset which also ended up updating the software as well. Still no dice.
Not sure where to go from here

2022.01.20 10:37 FernLesc COD: Infinite Warfare is good
The gameplay itself, the maps, the story, the characters, the weapons, the online and zombie maps... I know that the fact that it based on a futuristic world makes it unrealistic, but that doesn't necessarily make it a bad game. Why does it get so hated on? I'm just curious lol

1) should I get a quest 2 right now or wait till the pro comes out in April?
2) The valve index is said to have a more immersive feel, do you feel immersed when using Q2 or should I look into the index for a better feel?
3) What issues have you ran into that some higher end headsets can eliminate?

2022.01.20 10:37 HawkEye1000x PLUG POWER CEO Andy Marsh listened to Operational Managers & acquired JOULE for $30 Million last Friday. This acquisition lowers the cost of liquefying Gaseous Green Hydrogen by 25% — saving an estimated $20 Million/Year — and potentially this “tech” could bring in up to $250 Million in Revenues!
One of the most important things to remember when running a company is this: Always listen to your management team on the front line of operations. Kudos to Plug Power’s CEO Andy Marsh for doing exactly this! ✅
What a bargain! —> Plug Power has acquired Joule for only $30 Million. And, Joule’s technology could be marketed to bring in up to $250 Million in Revenues in the Year Ahead.
Fast Growing Marketplace for Joule’s Liquefying Technology: With the demand for Liquid Green Hydrogen Fuel expanding exponentially worldwide, Electrolyzer Plant Owners would love to lower their electricity costs by 25% or an estimated $0.02 to $0.03 per KwH with Joule’s Technology — potentially saving a lot of money during the process of converting Gaseous Green Hydrogen to Liquid Green Hydrogen.
Of course, Liquid Green Hydrogen is more efficient to transport because Cryogenic Tankers can haul a lot more volume of GH2 in Liquid Form than Gaseous Form, hence the reason why Plug Power has recently acquired Act Cryo Technologies‘ Fleet of Cryogenic Tankers — which Plug Power plans to expand to 250 Cryogenic Tankers by 2024.
Now, let’s take the HawkEye Macro View:

2022.01.20 10:37 ne_bo Home network abused for brute force ssh attacks
Hi, an interesting security incident occured at my home and I would greatly appreciate advice on how to proceed.
Few days ago, my HBO service was blocked in all my devices connected to my home WiFi (yet worked outside the network), which was quite interesting and after few calls to HBO support I finally got the information that they actively blocked my IP address due to malicious activity occuring from my IP that was reported in public database.
After some googling I found out that this must be the https://www.abuseipdb.com/ where my IP address really was reported (38x) for categories: "Port Scan", "Hacking", "Brute force", "SSH". I checked the reports in details and it seems that all attacks were done via SSH and they were trying to log into different websites using different user names (e.g. "admin", "manager" etc.) - so a likely brute force attack.
Interesting is that these attacks where done qutie irregulary so they kinda indicate a manual control of these attacks. And that attacks where still actively done: last was 2 hours before I found out about this.
Up until this moment I do not know with certainty what is the rogue device that did this. This is what I have in my network:
- Router (TP Link Archer C80)
- 2 Windows laptops (scanned with no results + where completely offline during some of the reported incidents)
- 1 Linux laptop (was completely offline during some of the reported incident)
- Smart Switch - Sonoff RFR3
- Raspberry Pi with OSMC Kodi
- Xiaomi Roborock
I can already eliminate all laptops, because they where not even physically present in the home network during several of the reported attacks. This leaves the last three. I do not really expect a vulnerability of this scale in Xiami Roborock (that is updated to latest firmware) and the same with the TP Link Router.
So my suspicion is on the Sonoff RFR3 which had (after scanning the network with nmap) single open port:
8081 | tcp | blackice-icecap
But I have to admit googling of this had not gave much usefull information.
The raspberry with OSMC had three ports:
ssh; http server on port 80 and "zeus-admin" service.
I have quickly done following:
- blocked the sonoff device MAC address from WiFi network (It was simpler at the moment than physically unplugging it)
- disabled ssh service and changed the password for http server in the raspberry (used for remote control of Kodi)
- updated firmware of the router
- I started ongoing long-term wireshark capturing into logs (in promiscous mode) on my linux laptop -> in case another attack would be reported.
What else should I do to mitigate this threat?
And what would you suggest as next steps to investigate what happened?
Which device do you think is responsible? (or could this be even security event on my provider's side?)
